ReaderCompass Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 21, 2026

ReaderCompass is an EPUB reading application developed by Mateo Cuervo. This Privacy Policy explains what information ReaderCompass collects and processes, how it is used and shared, how long it may be retained, and the choices available to you.

By using ReaderCompass, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information ReaderCompass processes

Books and reading content

When you add an EPUB to ReaderCompass, the book file is stored locally on your device.

To provide server-powered features, ReaderCompass may upload the EPUB to our servers. The book may be parsed into text sections and processed to support features such as:

  • Contextual explanations
  • Summaries
  • Translations
  • Character identification
  • AI-generated character portraits
  • Book processing and subscription usage-limit enforcement

Processed book text, book metadata, content hashes, generated representations, character descriptions, and generated portraits may be stored on our servers.

Removing a book from your device removes the local copy and associated local reading data. It may not automatically delete information that was previously processed and stored on our servers. You may request deletion of server-side information as described in this policy.

You should upload only books that you are authorized to possess and process.

Text submitted to AI features

When you use Explain, Summaries, Translation, or character-portrait features, ReaderCompass may process and transmit:

  • Selected passages
  • Nearby textual context
  • Chapter or reading-position information
  • Text selected for summarization
  • Text selected for translation
  • Book excerpts used to identify or describe characters
  • Instructions derived from book content to generate character portraits

This information is used to provide the requested feature, operate and secure the service, troubleshoot problems, prevent abuse, and improve service reliability.

Relevant content may be transmitted to third-party artificial-intelligence service providers when necessary to fulfill your request.

Subscription and purchase information

ReaderCompass uses Apple’s In-App Purchase system and third-party subscription-management infrastructure to manage subscriptions and entitlements.

We may process:

  • An app-specific subscription identifier
  • Subscription product and plan
  • Subscription status
  • Purchase, renewal, expiration, or cancellation events
  • Current billing period
  • The number of new books processed during a billing period

We do not directly receive or store your complete payment-card information. Payments are processed by Apple.

Technical and diagnostic information

ReaderCompass and its service providers may process limited technical information needed for security, subscription enforcement, diagnostics, and support, including:

  • A randomly generated installation identifier
  • Random request identifiers
  • An app-specific subscription identifier
  • App version
  • Operating-system platform
  • Application environment
  • Subscription tier
  • Request route, status, and timing
  • Error and diagnostic information
  • Limited excerpts or characteristics of submitted text when necessary to process or diagnose a request

The installation identifier is generated by ReaderCompass. It is not a hardware identifier or advertising identifier.

Information stored locally

ReaderCompass stores certain information locally on your device, including:

  • EPUB files
  • Reading progress
  • Highlights and selected highlight text
  • Bookmarks
  • Reader appearance and font settings
  • Local library metadata
  • Cached images

Information is not transmitted merely because it is stored locally. Book content or selected passages may be transmitted when you use server-powered features as described above.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and operate ReaderCompass
  • Process books and provide AI-assisted reading features
  • Generate explanations, summaries, translations, and character portraits
  • Manage subscriptions and purchase entitlements
  • Restore subscription entitlements
  • Enforce subscription book allowances

ReaderCompass does not sell personal information.

ReaderCompass does not use book content for third-party advertising.

3. Service providers and data sharing

ReaderCompass uses third-party service providers to operate the application and fulfill user-requested features. These providers may include:

  • Payment and App Store providers
  • Subscription-management providers
  • Artificial-intelligence text-processing providers
  • Artificial-intelligence image-generation providers
  • Cloud hosting and storage providers
  • Managed database and infrastructure providers

When you request an AI-powered feature, relevant book excerpts, selected text, surrounding context, or generated instructions may be transmitted to one or more artificial-intelligence service providers. Only information reasonably necessary to perform the requested feature is submitted.

Subscription identifiers, product information, entitlement status, and purchase lifecycle events may be processed by subscription-management providers.

Application data may be stored or processed by infrastructure providers for hosting, database storage, file storage, logging, security, and service reliability.

Third-party providers process information according to their respective terms, privacy practices, contractual obligations, and applicable law.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with applicable law or a valid legal request
  • Investigate fraud, misuse, or security incidents
  • Protect users, ReaderCompass, or others
  • Enforce applicable agreements

ReaderCompass does not share book content or personal information with third parties for targeted advertising.

4. Data retention

Information stored locally remains on your device until you delete it, clear the relevant application data, or uninstall ReaderCompass, subject to operating-system backup behavior.

Server-side book content, processed text, metadata, generated representations, subscription records, generated images, and diagnostic records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide ReaderCompass features
  • Preserve access to previously processed books
  • Enforce subscription allowances
  • Maintain security and service reliability
  • Resolve support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

When information is no longer reasonably necessary, it may be deleted or anonymized. Residual copies may remain temporarily in backups until overwritten through normal backup and recovery processes.

You may request deletion of server-side information using the contact information provided below.

5. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request:

  • Access to personal information associated with you
  • Correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Deletion of personal information
  • Restriction of or objection to certain processing
  • A portable copy of eligible personal information
  • Withdrawal of consent where processing relies on consent
  • Information about the categories of service providers that process your information

ReaderCompass does not currently require a conventional user account. To help locate information associated with your installation or subscription, we may ask you to provide your app-specific subscription identifier or other information available through the app.

We may need to retain limited information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to resolve disputes, prevent fraud, protect the service, or enforce applicable agreements.

To submit a privacy or deletion request, email mateo.ct.1986@gmail.com with the subject “ReaderCompass Deletion Request.”

6. Deleting local and server-side information

You can delete a book from your ReaderCompass library to remove its local files and associated local reading information from your device.

Deleting a book locally may not automatically delete book content or generated information stored on our servers.

To request deletion of server-side book content, generated portraits, subscription-associated records, or other eligible information, contact mateo.ct.1986@gmail.com.

We may request information reasonably necessary to locate the relevant records and verify that the request relates to your installation or subscription.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encrypted network transmission and access controls for production systems.

However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International processing

ReaderCompass’s service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Those countries may have data-protection laws that differ from the laws in your jurisdiction.

Where required by applicable law, appropriate safeguards are used for international transfers.

9. Children’s privacy

ReaderCompass is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information through ReaderCompass, contact us so that we can investigate and delete the information where appropriate.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to ReaderCompass, our data practices, our service providers, or applicable requirements.

The updated policy will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or App Store listing when appropriate.
